Vision:
Recognize and respect the unique value of every individual’s culture, family structure, language, race, gender, ability, religion, and economic class.
Mission:
Take a holistic approach to understanding the impact of racism and inequity on the early childhood community. We will do this by:
- Building collaborative relationships between families and early childhood professionals to support all children with equitable opportunities.
- Recognizing individual backgrounds and our own biases (implicit and explicit) to meet children and families where they are and provide differing levels of support depending on individual need.
- Providing training and support for early childhood professionals to foster success and maximize each child’s potential.
You are invited to join the Equity & Anti-Racism Circle at our next virtual meeting, July 23, 2025, at 6:30 pm. Prior to our meeting please view the Emmy Nominated film, Reflecting on Anti-Bias Education in Action: The Early Years to join a discussion exploring our anti-bias approaches within the field of early childhood education. Also available from the website with the film link, are guidebooks for you to use for the discussion.
The film, Reflecting on Anti-bias Education in Action: The Early Years (48 minutes), produced by Debbie LeeKeenan and John Nimmo, features vignettes of anti-bias strategies in early childhood classrooms interspersed with teachers reflecting on their practice. Debbie and John partnered with filmmaker Filiz Efe McKinney of Brave Sprout Productions to create a film that shifts the focus away from the talking heads of experts and on to the voices of teachers committed to equity on a daily basis. By taking viewers into diverse early childhood classrooms, the film seeks to demonstrate the importance of teacher reflection on identity, context, and practice in anti-bias education and provides a much-needed resource for teacher education and professional development.
We look forward to seeing you in our next meeting for a deep-dive discussion on the film and connecting with other educators and advocates. Join the meeting here.
